Peggy Smith
Professor & CEO Teen Health Clinics

The Opportunities You Take; the Ones You Don't
Dr Peggy Smith received her MA and PHD in psychology from the University of Texas. In 1972, she left her teaching post at Rice and created an ambitious program at Baylor and Ben Taub to do what many thought was impossible…reduce pregnancy rates among teens in Houston’s disadvantages neighborhoods. When she was finished, the rate had dropped from 16% to 3%. Now, after 4 decades, she has a new goal…bringing preventative medicine to adolescents. Peggy will share her amazing story of political intrigue and major social change; and share how she addresses the various opportunities that come her way.
